Things that go bump in the night

day 3 in our stay at econo campsite in Bella Coola

As we settle into the tent for the night we hear a crashing and splashing in the creek directly below. I now second guess my choice to set up right next to the banks of the river. In my mind I imagine a huge grizzley bear scooping salmon from the river thinking to itself what was on the dessert menue. Maybe some sugar or some fruit leathers that were hastily put in the vestibule of our tent. (the problem in this campsite is there is no trees to put a food cash and no building set out for a cash). Bax asks what the noise is from and I chose to give him the PG version and postulate someone has just come back from a late night canoe trip. I suggest to him I need to pee (which is not too far from the truth), I grab our sack of food and strap it to the motorcycle, which is packed 50 feet from the tent. I also grab the bear spray, take my pee, and go to bed and try to convince myself that it was just a canoe crashing.
