The day of the perfect pack

There are some days that you just know are going to be great. Others that you wish would be great. This was going to be one of those days. Bax and I both knew as symbolized by the perfect pack. The weather was incredible and we were off to Port Alice, and extra leg of the journey. I was packing up my tank bag and off chance a page that I photocopied at home appeared. It was from a web site from a book which describes destination highways, those stretches of road that are rated and analysed as being the top 100 stretches of highways in BC. This page described #12. We were right there and the road was beckoning. The highway is only 30 km long so we add it to our goal for today's journey. The sun is bright and hot, bax takes a dip in the lake.

We stop in Port Hardy for Subway and pack our bellies with Subway. The first leg towards Port Alice is characterized by sharp turns and long straight aways. We lean into the corners effortlessly. I am conscious not to speed, more just to prolong the experience, but also to ensure that if we hit gravel on the corners we can keep it under control. The second leg of the highway the turns are mareked 40km. For those from BC they know that these corners mean business. Some of these turns are located on 12% grades which makes the trip even more exciting. The tree canopy is almost touching overhead. I pass three other motorcyclists who all have the same goofy grin on their faces. We arrive in Port Alice and take the road back again, enjoying as much or more than the first time.

As you can see in the picture there is no such thing as perfection only self delusion. Halfway to Campbell river we have to push our load forward as it is continuing to migrate backwards and downwards.
