Day 1 (continued dad)
I experimented with 3 types of eye wear that were purchased for the trip. I was not happy with any of them in the driving rain. Maybe I can go shopping in Williams Lake (sorry Tam) We stop at Timmy's for a quick donut and share a hot chocolate. People are always more friendly and chatty when they see you riding a bike. Everyone either asks about the weather or asks about your destination. They don't realize that for us the journey is the destination. Maybe that is why they ask, loning to dream of a life outside their 9-5 existence where the only thing keeping hope alive is the carrot at the end of the stick or the weekend at the end of the long work week.
I pass a biker going the opposite direction and he give me the subtle wave. Even though he rides a hog he waves. This never failes to create a smile on my face.
We drive the last hour of our journey through periodic patches of rain and in the dark. I cautiously watch the ditch scanning for wildlife. I imagine myself catapolting over a large animal then landing in the ditch. This thought keeps me vigilant although I know in my head "shit happens"
